5-week module
Close Embrace Intensive Series
This five-week series will provide a solid foundation in Close Embrace for those new to that style, and strong improvements for those with some experience in it already. Each class will feature 90 minutes focusing on important fundamentals - moving comfortably without colliding, a comfortable embrace, turn techniques and the differences from Open Embrace, etc. Each student will then choose to do 30 minutes of either more advanced applications of these techniques, or additional work on the material already covered. Each class will include practical techniques for floorcraft (moving in a crowded dance floor) and musicality (choosing when to use a particular movement).
Vanja
Vanja's dance style is characterized with fluidity and sensual elegance, which she passes on onto her students. She has a profound knowledge of movements and partner connection and is a sought after lead who has been teaching group and private classes in tango for over 8 years. Before deciding to teach dance full time, Vanja earned a bachelor degree in finance from Humboldt University in Germany. Her analytical approach to dance combined with her constant striving for improvement has led her to develop a method of teaching based on raising her students’ awareness of the general structure of tango, breaking down steps into separate components and explaining the body mechanics behind them, as well as showing ways of manipulating the elements in order to vary the outcome.
Alexis
Alexis believes that great dance is built on musicality, connection to your partner, and fundamental movement technique. He first gained notoriety as an original and creative leader of Tango Nuevo, literally "wowing" onlookers weekly at milongas in New York City. In close embrace, Alexis often shows a very different side, concentrating on the sensuousness of the music and the connection to his partner. The first teachers to strongly influence Alexis were Robin Thomas and Mario Consiglieri. While he has learned from numerous other teachers in Buenos Aires and the U.S. since then, the biggest influence on his dance comes from the many great followers he has danced with, including his partner, Vanja.
