ERin McKeownYou write (or want to write) songs but have trouble getting started, find yourself stuck and unable to finish, or just plain can’t make the time. Spend a weekend workshop with Erin as she shares her own experiences moving through common stumbling blocks.  Students will participate in a variety of exercises aimed at making the songwriting process less daunting with plenty of dedicated writing time. Topics include using rhythm, writing from a prompt, collaborative songwriting, listening, and the editing process- for both lyrics and music. We’ll even tackle those tricky things called “bridges”.

Students are encouraged to bring an acoustic instrument of their choice (including your voice!), a notebook, headphones, and a small recording device (phone, handheld recorder etc).  Students wishing to bring keyboards must bring their own amplification.   Any students who have a Mac or iPad with the GarageBand software or app are encouraged to bring that as well.  If you don’t have GarageBand you will be at no disadvantage, but please let us know ahead of time.

• songswap • Sunday 3 – 5 PM

After a weekend of working on new material, let’s close it out with an informal songswap! Everyone will have a chance to play a song for the group and receive supportive feedback. Play anything you like and let us love you!

STUDENTS OF ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS WORKSHOP

LUNCH WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE ON-SITE OR BRING YOUR OWN

WORKSHOP COST: $250.  ENROLLMENT LIMITED. $50 REGISTRATION DEPOSIT (NON-REFUNDABLE).  BALANCE OF TUITION DUE BY 6/1/2015. TUITION REFUNDABLE ONLY IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES.

How our very own Pamela feels about Erin: “Erin‘s music is part of the soundtrack of my adult life – I can place each of her albums according to what was happening for me at the time starting in 2003.”
