INTERVIEW WITH DANIEL BODAK
Daniel has been a Tango Intern with Sangha Space since January 2015, but he’s been a part of the community since 2010. As a dancer, Daniel moves with close attention to musicality, grace, and intention. You can catch him at tango classes on Wednesday and Thursday nights! He also co-teaches the free lesson before the Tango Hop every 2nd Saturday of the month.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
Riddle Hospital in Media, PA.
HOW DID YOU ENCOUNTER TANGO?
I went to the Tango Hop, and then started taking lessons with a girlfriend. I really liked it, and started to clean the space in exchange for lessons because I couldn’t afford them.
ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO TANGO?
Try to dance as much as possible and don’t feel bad for being a beginner. Everybody was a beginner at one point.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE TANGO IN 3 WORDS?
Listen, Breathe, Go!
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT EXCHANGING ROLES?
Getting to dance both parts, because both parts are very fun. Being able to follow and be able to lead is very special. It gives you insight into what the other person has to deal, which helps with patience.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TAKING CLASSES AT SANGHA SPACE?
All of my friends, and all the kindness that everyone who comes to Sangha brings.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE CURRENTLY LEARNING MORE ABOUT?
Milonga, to move fast and still be as clear and connected.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TANGO SONG/ORQUESTRA?
“Ella es así” by Edgardo Donato, it’s a very cool milonga song.
WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES (BESIDES TANGO) DO YOU ENJOY?
Fire spinning, slack lining, and riding my bike. Playing and singing music.
IF YOU WERE TO WIN THE LOTTERY, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR TIME?
Making art and dancing. Everything I like to do, without working.
WHAT’S SOMETHING SECRETLY AWESOME ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW?
I can read palms.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?
Be nice, Smile, Be kind.
