MEET JAVIER ROCHWARGER
(He is so cute)
Javier is returning to Sangha Space this May (2017) and we couldn’t be more excited for his visit! As many of us consider Lori “our teacher”, it is our special honor to host and study from Javier who is Lori’s teacher. It is clear that she is as fond of him as he is of her. We get that as we love her, too. He is warm and generous, humorous and compassionate, and it’s going to be so good to dance with him again.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
Buenos Aires, Argentina
HOW DID YOU ENCOUNTER TANGO?
As a kid, going to weddings, parties, or bar mitzvah. The music played for dance was mostly klezmer or American but, there was always a small tanda of tango for the old people (not any more).
ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO TANGO?
CAN YOU DESCRIBE TANGO IN 3 WORDS?
Expression of feelings
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT EXCHANGING ROLES?
It is definitely the best way to understand our potential errors, like looking at ourselves in a mirror of the sensations.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING AT SANGHA SPACE?
First, to have the chance to see Lori (I love her). And second, the sensation of family that I can “breathe” in the atmosphere.
SOME SAY TEACHERS ARE LIFELONG LEARNERS. WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE CURRENTLY LEARNING MORE ABOUT OR WORKING ON AS A TANGO TEACHER?
I’m learning how to improve my walk.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TANGO SONG/ORQUESTRA?
Changes by day, today is Troilo. Yesterday I woke up more D’Arienzo. Tomorrow…??
WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES (BESIDES TANGO) DO YOU ENJOY?
To cook and I also enjoy fixing things (I always find some)
IF YOU WERE TO WIN THE LOTTERY, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR TIME?
I would still be teaching tango, but the tours would be shorter. Right now, I spend more than 4 months out of home.
WHAT’S SOMETHING SECRETLY AWESOME ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW?
I’m pretty good at untying the tangled.
