WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
East of Los Angeles in Pomona, CA.
HOW DID YOU ENCOUNTER TANGO?
Senior year of high school a friend and ballet dancer invited me to an alt-milonga in Portland. I started tango classes at the University of Oregon with Vicky Ayers. Haven’t stopped dancing since.
ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO TANGO?
Take classes. The more you give, the more you’ll receive. Be patient and enjoy the process. It gets easier. Learning the history of tango will deepen your understanding and better your dancing.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE TANGO IN 3 WORDS?
Limitless connection, emotion.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT EXCHANGING ROLES?
Feeling how others dance your roll keeps your dancing fresh and creative.
SOME SAY TEACHERS ARE LIFELONG LEARNERS. WHAT IS ONE THING YOU ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
Energetic and musical unity with my partner.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TANGO SONG/ORQUESTRA RIGHT NOW?
El gordo Pichuco – Aníbal Troilo
IF YOU WERE TO WIN THE LOTTERY, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR TIME?
World-travel, funding epic artistic ventures with amazing artists, creating more profitable opportunities for artists and performers. I would create the first dance production conducted in space or on the moon.
WHAT’S SOMETHING SECRETLY AWESOME ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW?
I’ll be performing in a contemporary dance production for the first time this summer.
